This pleasant feature is where the town congregates on hot days. Local myth is that during the late 19th century, the townsfolk of Bend somehow elected a zoo hippopotamus to lead them into the last century of the millennium.

The Bend Community Pool is now a large, upgraded facility where swimming lessons and other aquatic sports and skills are taught. Lifeguarding, CPR, and other useful lessons are taught by young instructors who in turn enjoy kayaking along the rivers and tributaries that surround the town.
